I became interested in long range shooting during a random meeting at the Stittsville Shooting Range in 2018. I met Scott Simpson, who invited me to practice with the NCRRA at the Connaught military range in Ottawa. I had my Tikka Tac with a mil scope that I used to think was pretty special. Then Don Hall told me to try out his gun set up on the 1000 yard line. While he wind coached me, I was able to shoot a perfect score. I was hooked from that moment.
I purchased all the components to do an F-Open rifle, but I couldn't find a gunsmith that does that kind of work for what I was looking to do. So I took the Gordy Gridders course in 2022. That schooled me in exactly how to chamber for precision rifles. I dumped a lot of money on tooling and machines, then I was off and running and chambered my own rifle and bedded the action. I just had time enough finish the rifle, test fire it, and find a cartridge load that I figured would be good enough. I entered the 2023 Victoria Day Match and came in second. Now the hook was sunk in deep.
I'm a mechanical engineer by trade. I graduated from Waterloo University with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering back in 2002. I've always been the kind of person to fix or rebuild anything I own. I'm a little stubborn that way.
